Lithuanian Franciscan Youth Fraternity
The roots of Franciscan Youth in Lithuania started in Kretinga in 1995 when Franciscan Youth Ministry (PJT) was established. In Lithuania there is one province
of the Order of Friars Minor with the name of St. Casimir. There are five franciscan
monasteries in the province of Lithuania, three of their churches are active parishes.
The 8th of
July 2006 was special day for Lithuanian Youfra. The National Statute
was passed and the first National Council was elected. There are five local Youfra fraternities (in Kretinga, Vilnius, Klaipeda, Telsiai and Kaunas) constituting the national fraternity.
On the 13th
of November 2007 Lithuanian Franciscan Youth Fraternity was registered as a
traditional religious community, thus giving a juridical status for the national
fraternity.
Lithuanian Youfra was trusted by CIOFS Presidency as strong enough to organize the
fifth
European Franciscan Youth Congress. The preparation for the event has started right
after the decision.
The Congress organization team sends you warm greetings
and is looking forward to meeting you in Lithuania!
